Blaze destroys house in Foster Village
Four Foster Village residents lost their home in a fire Sunday night. Damage was estimated at $330,000.
The cause of the fire on Piikea Street, which was reported at 7:29 p.m., is under investigation. The fire, which destroyed the one-story house, was brought under control at 8:08 p.m.
One of the residents suffered minor injury when he was overcome by smoke upon going back into the burning building, fire officials said. He refused medical treatment.
Two men and two women who live in the home declined Red Cross assistance.
Garbage truck overturns during rush hour
Police, fire and paramedics responded to a report of an overturned garbage truck Monday on the H-2 freeway.
Fire rescue personnel responded to the accident at 7:27 a.m. in the southbound lane between the Ka Uka Boulevard and Pearl City offramps. They said the truck driver was able to free himself and was being treated by paramedics at the accident scene.
No major injuries were reported. Police closed three southbound lanes near the Ka Uka offramp for three hours.
Fern Acres fire ruins workshop off garage
Fire destroyed a single-story attachment to a residential structure in the Fern Acres subdivision in Puna on Monday.
Firefighters responding to a 12:08 p.m. alarm found the attachment, described as a workshop area connected to a garage, engulfed in flames. They prevented the fire from spreading to the home’s living area. The fire was brought under control by 12:20 p.m. and extinguished by 12:47 p.m.
Damage was estimated at $120,000.
The cause has not been determined.
