Some stores are closed today, thankfully

Many folks willingly — eagerly — head out for some power shopping on Thanksgiving Day and the pre-Black Friday bargains.

The lure of deep, deep discounts apparently are worth the mob scenes encountered in the dead of Thanksgiving night into the wee hours of the morning after.

Go figure. To each his own. Whatever floats your boat.

Call us old-fashioned — but we prefer to salute the retailers who have opted out of this growing madness, choosing instead to remain closed so their employees can enjoy the holiday off. These include chains such as T.J. Maxx, Nordstrom, Pier 1 Imports, Barnes & Noble, Costco and Bed Bath & Beyond, to name a few.

For workers who look forward to the day off and are able to enjoy it, be thankful indeed.
