Target Corp. is hosting two job fairs this month for its stores in Kailua and Kahului.
The Minneapolis-based retailer will hire about 500 workers combined for the two locations, which are slated to open in March.
The Kailua store job fair is scheduled for Dec. 11-14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Royal Hawaiian Golf Club, formerly the Luana Hills Country Club.
The Kahului store job fair is Thursday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.
During the events, store leaders will conduct pre-scheduled interviews with applicants. Interested applicants can go to Target.com/careers to apply in advance or use application kiosks in all Target locations.
The Kailua site at 345 Hahani St. will measure approximately 134,000 square feet, while Maui’s first Target at the Pu‘unene Shopping Center will be about 140,000 square feet.
Both will offer fresh food, a Starbucks and a Target Pharmacy.
The company opened its first Hawaii stores in Salt Lake and Kapolei in 2009 and later added locations in Hilo and Kona.
Plans for the Kailua Target drew opposition from residents who voiced concerns about the impact on traffic and the potential loss of Kailua’s "small-town feeling," according to the "No (Don’t) Target Kailua" blog.
A Target spokeswoman said the company delayed the opening of its Kailua store to listen to and address concerns of residents.
