Motorcyclist injured in collision with biker who runs red light
A 34-year-old Honolulu man was in critical condition Tuesday after the motorcycle he was driving hit a bicyclist who was crossing against the light on Ala Moana Boulevard near Ala Moana Beach Park, police said.
The collision occurred at 7:12 a.m. at Ala Moana Boulevard and Queen Street.
Police said the motorcyclist was traveling west on Ala Moana Boulevard and had the green light when a 25-year-old Waipahu man ignored the red "don’t walk" sign and crossed Ala Moana Boulevard heading for the park.
Both men were thrown from their vehicles.
The two were taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition. The 25-year-old bicyclist’s condition was later upgraded to serious. Neither driver wore a helmet.
Police closed Ewa-bound lanes of Ala Moana Boulevard for nearly two hours Tuesday morning. Traffic was detoured to Queen and Auahi streets while traffic division officers investigated the crash scene. Police reopened the road at about 9:10 a.m.
