Maui driver allegedly tries to ram officer
Maui police arrested a man who allegedly struck a patrol car with a stolen vehicle and slightly injured a police officer Tuesday morning in the area of Makena State Park.
Police said that at 9:06 a.m. officers using GPS tracked a stolen vehicle to a parking lot at La Perouse Bay.
The driver was leaving the lot when he saw a patrol car, police said. The officer got out and stood by the driver’s side door and ordered the suspect to get out of his vehicle.
The man then allegedly accelerated the vehicle toward the officer, who jumped into the patrol car but not before he was struck by his own car door. The door was struck by the stolen vehicle, police said.
Police arrested the man on suspicion of attempted murder, first-degree criminal property damage and unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.
