Fire destroys Kailua garage, singes home
An elderly couple were uninjured after a fire destroyed their Kailua home’s garage Saturday morning.
The fire on Hui Street caused an estimated $60,000 in damage.
Fire Capt. James Todd said the unattached garage was a total loss, causing an estimated $40,000 in damage to the structure and $20,000 to its contents, which included a vehicle burned beyond recognition. The three-bedroom, two-bath house received only minor damage, he said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The fire department brought the 10:04 a.m. alarm blaze under control at 10:18 a.m. and extinguished it at 10:55 a.m.
Pedestrian seriously injured in Waikele
A 53-year-old female pedestrian was seriously injured Saturday afternoon in an accident involving a vehicle in Waikele.
Emergency Medical Services responded to the incident and transported the woman to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.
The accident occurred at 1:30 p.m. on Paioa Place.
