Brown water prompts West Maui advisory
State Health Department officials are warning swimmers and surfers to stay out of the water because of brown water conditions at a popular West Maui surf spot, where a fatal shark attack occurred in 2004.

The Health Department says the brown water is from pollutants from shoreline and inland sources.
In 2004, there was a fatal shark attack at S Turn during murky water conditions, the Health Department’s Clean Water Branch reported.
