Special ag status sought for acreage
Kamehameha Schools is petitioning the state Land Use Commission to designate 9,592 acres of its agriculture-zoned lands on Oahu as Important Agricultural Lands.
The request submitted Friday is seeking the designation for 421 acres in Punaluu and 9,171 acres on the North Shore. The designation protects agricultural lands from urbanization and promotes the retention of these lands for agricultural production and use.
It also has identified surrounding lands in both areas for expanded or new processing facilities, farmers markets and other opportunities to support farmers in getting their produce to the local market.
Over the last decade the landowner has invested $12 million on irrigation systems to provide farmers in both areas with immediate access to water.

The website also allows the public to search Form D filings for free.
There will be a one-time $150 charge for each filing companies make through the Electronic Filing Depository in addition to the regular Reg D filing fee of $100.
Kaiser debuts virtual dermatology service
Kaiser Permanente Hawaii has launched a virtual service that allows dermatologists to view images of suspicious moles, lesions and rashes via HealthConnect, its electronic medical record system.
"Tele-derm" started as a pilot project on Maui and Hawaii island and is now available to all Kaiser patients to improve access to specialists, speed the diagnostic process and improve clinical outcomes.
Through the service, dermatologists review photos sent via a secure email server from primary care physicians and determine whether an appointment is necessary to further diagnose or treat the condition.
