Kailua woman attacked in home by burglar
A 30-year-old homeless man allegedly surprised a woman in her Kailua home Sunday afternoon and attacked her.
Police said the 23-year-old woman returned home at 12:45 p.m. and surprised the suspect, who was apparently burglarizing her home. After assaulting the woman, the suspect fled in a stolen car and was caught an hour later at a Waimanalo shopping mall, police said.
She was taken to the hospital in serious condition with multiple stab wounds, said a city Emergency Services Department spokeswoman.
Officers arrested the man on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree burglary and car theft.

Teen missing after cliff jump on Hawaii isle
The Coast Guard and Hawaii County fire crews continued searching Monday near Hapuna Beach Park for a 13-year-old boy missing since he jumped off a 15-foot cliff into the ocean.
The Hawaii County Fire Department notified the Coast Guard about the incident at about 10:21 a.m. Sunday.
The teen, who was not identified, was last seen wearing a black shirt with tan shorts.
A friend reported the boy missing after they jumped from the cliff and the missing boy failed to surface.
The Fire Department and Coast Guard have been conducting joint searches since Sunday, but the Coast Guard suspended its active search at sunset Monday.
The Coast Guard had conducted air searches with an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Barbers Point and the 110-foot cutter Kiska, based in Hilo.
