Suspect arrested in store robbery
Hawaii island police have arrested a person of interest in connection with the robbery of a convenience store in Kona.
Kona patrol officers arrested Kelly Marie Brightbill in Kalaoa at 3:10 a.m. Thursday while investigating a suspicious vehicle call.
Brightbill, 36, was wanted for questioning in connection with the robbery of the Minit Stop off Kekela Street on Tuesday afternoon.
She was arrested on suspicion of first degree robbery, an unrelated third degree theft and contempt of court, police said. She was being held in the Kona cellblock.
Police also arrested the driver of a black Mercedes, a 26-year-old Hilo man, for unrelated traffic offenses. The Mercedes matches the description of the getaway car.
Detectives are still looking for a male robbery suspect, described as Caucasian, possibly in his early to mid-20s, 5 feet 5 to 5 feet 7 inches tall, 125 to 130 pounds, with a slim build and shoulder length blond hair. Witnesses are asked to call Detective Joel Field at 961-2382 or email jfield@co.hawaii.hi.us.
DLNR to discuss new fishing rules
WAILUKU » State Department of Land and Natural Resources enforcement officers will be at the Maui Mall this weekend to inform people about new fishing rules that took effect last month.
The department says the new rules affect the take of all uhu, or parrotfish, species. They also affect the take of many goatfish species, such as kumu, moano kea and weke.
Matt Yamamoto, Maui branch chief of the Division of Conservation and Resources, says Saturday’s event at the mall will help reach fishermen and answer their questions about the new rules.
More information on the new rules is available at www.dlnr.hawaii.gov/dar.
