Kauai victim fatally injured by tree-cutting accident
A 58-year-old Kauai man was fatally injured while attempting to cut down a tree near his cabin in Kokee.
He was identified as Adrien "Eddie" Malina of Kapaa.
At about 9 a.m. Saturday, police said, Malina was in a utility boom truck trying to cut down a tree. A second tree that was leaning against the tree he attempted to cut fell onto an unused utility line.
Police said the victim became pinned between the truck bucket and the utility line.
Bystanders cut the line and helped Malina out of the bucket.
Kauai Police spokeswoman Sarah Blane said he sustained severe injuries to his chest, lungs and ribs.
Malina was transported to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital, where he died.
Cases of domestic abuse land Waianae men in jail
Police arrested two men in separate domestic abuse cases Sunday that both allegedly occurred in front of children in the Waianae area.
Officers arrested a 34-year-old man at 12:22 a.m. Sunday after he allegedly abused a 32-year-old woman in the presence of three children under the age of 14 on Wednesday, police said.
The man and woman had been in an argument that turned physical, police said. The man was in custody Monday pending an investigation.
Then at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, officers arrested a 52-year-old man who allegedly physically abused a 31-year-old woman in the presence of their children.
The alleged abuse happened at about 10 a.m. Sunday, police said.
The man was arrested on suspicion of felony abuse of a family member.
