Pound mochi Sunday morning in Aiea

Aiea Hongwanji Mission is inviting the public to experience the Japa­nese ritual of mochi pounding at 8 a.m. Sunday.

Participants will pound, roll and taste the mochi at the mission, 99-186 Pua­kala St., just off Moana­lua Road near Aloha Stadium.

Entertainer premieres her own wine

Singer Amy Hanai­ali‘i Gilliom has entered the wine biz. Gilliom’s inaugural 2013 Hanai­ali‘i Napa Valley Merlot, produced by the JW Thomas Group, is available on Oahu for about $25.

Gilliom characterized her merlot as "how us local girls like to drink wine," with rich fruit and chocolate flavors.

Hanaiali‘i is sold at Times Supermarkets, Don Quijote, Tamura’s and Whole Foods locations on Oahu, and is served at Hoku’s at Kahala Resort, BLT at the Trump International Wai­kiki and Il Lupino at Royal Hawaiian Center.
