Information about the official New Year’s Eve fireworks display in Las Vegas has been announced. Known as "America’s Party," the show will encompass both the annual fireworks show on the Strip and live entertainment downtown at the Fremont Street Experience.
As in recent years, the Strip fireworks will be launched from seven rooftop locations: MGM Grand, Aria, Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island, the Venetian and Stratosphere. More than 80,000 pyrotechnic devices will be used in the distinctly gambler-esque 7-minute, 11-second show that will be choreographed with several top pop hits, including "Counting Stars," "Girl on Fire" and "Don’t Stop the Party." The downtown party will run from 5:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. and feature 13 tribute bands. Tickets for the downtown bash are $40.
Caesars Food Court: The former Cypress Street Marketplace at Caesars Palace has reopened as the Forum Food Court, with five dining options: Di Fara Pizza, Phillips Seafood, Earl of Sandwich, Tiger Wok & Ramen, and the first Smashburger on the Strip. The 14,900-square-foot space will add more outlets in 2015.
Cab Fare Hike: An 8 percent increase in Nevada cab fares, approved by the Nevada Taxicab Authority in October, is now in effect. The new rates are inclusive of the former separate fuel surcharge and include a 15-cent hike to $3.45 for the initial drop, 2 cents more per 1/13 mile thereafter, and a $2.40 hike per hour for wait time. It’s the first time fares have been raised in six years.
QUESTION: Is it possible to get onto the Strip for New Year’s Eve?
ANSWER: About 340,000 visitors are expected to be in town, with many angling to be partying on the Strip at midnight. It’s easy if you have a room at a casino — just step in and out as you like. If you don’t, you’ll have to start early to secure parking on or near the Strip and be prepared to wait well past midnight to leave.
