Autopsy scheduled in possible drowning
Hawaii County police are investigating the death of a 53-year-old man from Seattle as a possible drowning.
A kayaker found David Green Thompson motionless in the ocean off Wailea Beach in Puako at about 9:35 a.m. Sunday.
The kayaker brought Thompson to shore but efforts to revive him were not successful. Thompson was transported to Kona Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
Boy’s dirt bike death prompts investigation
Maui police said an investigation is underway regarding a 6-year-old Maui boy who died following an accident on a motorized dirt bike.
Maui police, who responded at 12:30 p.m. Monday to the park at Eddie Tam Gym in Makawao, said the boy was not wearing any protective gear. The boy was transported from the park to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he died.
Motorist dies after fiery crash in Kapolei
A man was killed Monday morning when the SUV he was driving crashed into a canal at the back of a dead-end road in Kapolei, according to a report on HawaiiNewsNow.
Witnesses told the station that the vehicle sped through residential Kuneha Street before crashing into the canal and catching fire.
Witnesses attempted to rescue the man, who survived the impact, but were held back by spreading flames.
The crash occurred at about 6:30 a.m.
Rescuers are unable to save Maui visitor
A 61-year-old visitor died after he lost consciousness while sitting on Polo Beach in Kihei, Maui, police said.
He was identified as Howard Schultz of Longmont, Colo.
The incident happened at 9:05 a.m. Monday.
People in the area conducted cardiopulmonary resuscitation until medics and fire personnel arrived. Despite lifesaving measures, Schultz died. An autopsy is pending.
Man charged with assault on teenager
A Hilo man was charged with assault after he allegedly slashed a teenager during an argument.
Michael Alan Hoke, 52, was arrested at the scene and later charged with second-degree assault. His bail was set at $2,000.
Hawaii island police said the domestic violence incident was reported at 9:17 a.m. Sunday. The victim, 17, was taken by ambulance to Hilo Medical Center with a "substantial" cut to his upper body. He was treated and released.
