Galdiano wins Arizona golf tournament
Reigning Hawaii state high school champion Mariel Galdiano shot the low round for the third straight day to run away with the championship of the 44th annual Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship on Tuesday in Chandler, Ariz.
Galdiano fired rounds of 66-67-67 for a total of 16-under-par 200. The Punahou junior had five birdies and no bogeys in the final round at Whirlwind Golf Club.
Haley Moore finished seven shots back for second. Allisen Corpuz, Galidano’s teammate at Punahou, tied for fourth at 68—209. Corpuz captured the Hawaii State Open women’s title earlier this month and was a shot behind Galdiano after the first round in Arizona.
Kacie Komoto, who won a state high school title in 2012 and now attends Northwestern, finished in a tie for 37th at 72—220. Punahou’s Aiko Leong (75) and ‘Iolani’s Zoey Akagi-Bustin (77) earned a share of 66th at 226.
The invitational is open to the country’s top female golfers between the ages of 13 and 23. There were 111 in the field. Previous Silver Belle champions include Yani Tseng (2005), Emilee Klein (1991) and Hawaii State Junior Golf Association president Mary Bea Porter-King (1973).
