After a busy 2014 that saw the openings of SLS Las Vegas, The Cromwell, Delano Las Vegas, and the LINQ Promenade and High Roller observation wheel, things will slow down a bit in 2015.
However, although no major casino openings are scheduled, the Park outdoor project on the south end of the Strip will open between New York-New York and Monte Carlo toward the end of the year.
Work is also slated to begin on the massive Resorts World Las Vegas, a $4 billion to $7 billion megaresort at center Strip that will be the biggest project since CityCenter.
Excalibur buffet: The Buffet at Excalibur has reopened. Prices are up $1 across the board — breakfast $17.99, lunch $18.99 and dinner $23.99 — but it also appears that the quality of what was considered one of the city’s lesser spreads has been raised substantially, including a Friday seafood night for $26.99.
Downtown noodles: The replacement restaurant for the former Pasta Pirate at downtown’s California casino will be the California Noodle House. The timetable for completion hasn’t been announced, but in the meantime a sign informs that "Pasta Pirate favorites" are being served in the Redwood Bar & Grill.
D & M extend: Donny and Marie Osmond have extended their residency at the Flamingo through 2015. Tickets are on sale now for dates from Jan. 20 through Nov. 14.
Bitcoin ATM: A second Las Vegas bitcoin ATM has opened downtown at the Gold Spike. The first was opened last year inside the Viva Vegas souvenir shop on the Strip.
QUESTION: Is the big gold nugget at the Golden Nugget the original that’s been displayed there for years? I thought it had been moved.
ANSWER: It’s the real thing. After being relocated to Biloxi, the world’s largest gold nugget, the "Hand of Faith," was brought back to Las Vegas earlier this year and is back in its original display space near Vic & Anthony’s restaurant.
