Hawaii sure to be mentioned again on Jan. 12
It must have been awful to be a Florida State fan on New Year’s Day as the Oregon Ducks, quarterbacked by Hawaii native son Marcus Mariota, made duck soup of the Seminoles in the semifinal game leading up to the first-ever college football national championship, set for Jan. 12.
The Ducks already had a five-point lead at the end of the half — 18 to 13 — and it just got worse from there, or better, depending on who you were rooting for. The final score was 59-20, a real blowout.
So now it’s on to the final for Mariota and his Ducks, which include five other players with Hawaii ties. Go Ducks!

And now the volcanologists are saying a "rejuvenation eruption" is even a possibility on other islands, including Oahu. Is it empathy time?
Before people panic and run for the hills remember that, A, the hills are precisely the site of past eruptions and, B, chances of it happening are, shall we say, low. If global warming and the high cost of just getting by aren’t enough causes for worry, here’s one more thing — for our descendants to fret over, at least.
