Body of man missing for a week is found
An opihi picker found the body of a 49-year-old man who had been missing since Jan. 1, Hawaii County police said.
Police identified the man as Jann L. Nakoa of Keaau.
Police said the opihi picker found the body along the shoreline between Hilo and Keaau, 21⁄2 miles north of Haena Point.
The body was roughly 100 feet from the ocean. Fire personnel airlifted the body out of the area.
Nakoa’s fingerprints were used to confirm his identity Wednesday.
Police do not suspect foul play. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
