Witnesses sought in Halawa car accident
Police are asking anyone who witnessed a pedestrian accident Monday night near Aloha Stadium in Halawa to contact police or CrimeStoppers.
Police said a 70-year-old woman driving a 2004 white four-door Suzuki struck a man in his 70s trying to cross Salt Lake Boulevard near Kahuapaani Street at 8:12 p.m.
Sgt. Michael Brady of the Vehicular Homicide Section said it is unknown whether the man was in or out of the crosswalk when he was struck by the vehicle.
The incident occurred on Salt Lake Boulevard, 155 feet east of Kahuapaani, near the intersection where the Stadium Shopping Center and the stadium are located.
Police said Tuesday they did not know the identity of the man, who remained in critical condition at the Queen’s Medical Center, where he was taken after being struck Monday night.
"We are working on identifying him today," Lt. Carlene Lau with the police Vehicular Homicide Section said Tuesday afternoon.
The driver, who was uninsured, stopped after the accident, Lau said. The Suzuki was heading eastbound when it struck the man.

Man found near China Walls is identified
The Honolulu medical examiner’s office has identified the 28-year-old man who died Sunday night after being found unconscious in waters off the area known as China Walls in Hawaii Kai.
He was identified Tuesday as Thomas J. Ferrara, 28, of Pennsylvania. An autopsy was performed, but the cause of death has been deferred, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Ferrara went missing Sunday evening while friends were at the water’s edge.
