4 arrested on Big Island in fatal stabbing
Hawaii County police arrested four suspects Thursday in connection with a fatal stabbing in Hilo on Tuesday.
Detectives arrested the two men and two women Thursday afternoon and evening at their Honomu home on suspicion of second-degree murder.
The suspects — two men, both age 21, and two women, ages 22 and 28 — remained in custody at the Hilo police station while detectives continued investigating the death of Brian Whetten, 43.
Whetten, who had no permanent address, was found Tuesday with stab wounds in a drugstore parking lot off Kilauea Avenue. He died later at Hilo Medical Center.
Man taken to hospital after ocean trouble
A 47-year-old man was reported in critical condition Friday afternoon after being pulled from the waters of Turtle Bay, according to Emergency Medical Services.
Paramedics treated the man and transported him in critical condition to a hospital.
EMS said the man was apparently in trouble offshore of Turtle Bay, and witnesses pulled him to shore at about 12:50 p.m.
Woman charged with credit card fraud
A 26-year-old Makiki woman is accused of fraudulently using a credit card number to book a Waikiki hotel room.
Jessica Crane was charged Thursday with fraudulent use of a credit card, second-degree theft and unauthorized control of personal confidential information. Bail was set at $15,000.
Police arrested Crane on Tuesday for allegedly fraudulently using a credit card number to book the hotel room under the cardholder’s name. Hotel charges totaling $3,000 were made between Oct. 29 and Nov. 7 before the fraud was discovered, police said.
