Equipment trouble halts New Zealand flight
A Hawaiian Airlines Airbus A330 bound for Auckland, New Zealand, aborted takeoff Wednesday afternoon from Honolulu Airport.
The captain for Hawaiian Airlines Flight 445 made the decision due to an unreliable airspeed indicator during the 2:33 p.m. takeoff, Hawaiian Air said in an email.
This resulted in the tires of the plane deflating after it stopped on a taxiway off Runway 8R, according to the email.
There were 201 passengers and 12 crew members aboard the plane, Hawaiian Air said. Passengers were shuttled to the terminal and put on another plane, estimated to depart at 10:45 p.m.
The aircraft will stay on the taxiway until the tires can be changed, according to Hawaiian Air.

Panel defers Coco Palms building permits
LIHUE » The Kauai County Planning Commission is deferring its decision on whether to issue permits for the rebuilding of Kauai’s famed Coco Palms resort.
The Garden Island newspaper reported Wednesday that the commission unanimously deferred the matter until a Feb. 10 meeting.
The Coco Palms Resort is the only major hotel that did not reopen after Hurricane Iniki in 1992. The property became famous when Elvis Presley filmed his 1961 movie "Blue Hawaii" there.
Coco Palms Hui LLC is proposing a $135 million project to restore the historic resort and turn it into a Hyatt.
The new resort would have 273 hotel rooms and 77 suites. The original hotel had about 400 rooms.
