Go ‘Hawks … er, rather Max Unger
They’ve been seriously overshadowed all week by the New England Patriots’ "Deflategate" — but recall, if you will, the thrilling way the Seattle Seahawks came back from far behind, in overtime, to take the NFC championship two weeks ago. But regardless of whether local fans are rooting for the ‘Hawks or the Pats in Super Bowl XLIX, look for Max Unger, the Hawaii Preparatory Academy grad and Seahawks center who will be playing in the big game. So get those pupus and liquid refreshments ready; come 1:30 p.m. Sunday, it’s game time on KHNL.
Restaurant’s demise a loss for many
Downtown Honolulu bids aloha to Brasserie Du Vin, the Bethel Street bistro, reportedly the result of a rent dispute. Restaurateur Dave Stewart said the landlords, Plumbers and Fitters Union Local 675, "just don’t like me." They’re not talking about it, so who knows?
Whatever the reason, the Saturday last call is really the last call, and it’s a loss for diners and theater-goers (the eatery was a popular stop after a show at Hawaii Theatre). Saddest of all is the loss of jobs for its 32 employees and of a venue for musicians who played there. Here’s hoping the doors will open again, someplace else.
