Friends Helping Friends, an evening of music, refreshments and dance organized in support of Hono­lulu writer Lynn Cook following the death of her husband, Richard Hardy, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Lotus Hono­lulu Hotel.

Friends and fans of Cook’s articles on Hawaii’s culture, arts and natural heritage, which have appeared in the Hono­lulu Star-Advertiser, Hana Hou and elsewhere, can enjoy music performed by Henry Kapono, Kuana Torres Kahele and others, and hula by the dancers of Halau Mohala ‘Ilima, of which Cook has been a member for more than 20 years. KITV news anchorwoman Paula Akana will serve as emcee.

The gathering is a fundraiser to help offset medical and other expenses incurred during Hardy’s long battle with cancer. He died just before New Year’s Eve.

A $20 donation at the door includes pupu. There will be a no-host bar and an auction featuring a sail on Hawai‘i­loa, round trips on Hawaiian Airlines, Wai­kiki hotel stays, restaurant gift certificates, art, books and other delights.

The Lotus Honolulu Hotel is 2885 Kala­kaua Ave., near Sans Souci. Valet parking will be available.
