Friends Helping Friends, an evening of music, refreshments and dance organized in support of Honolulu writer Lynn Cook following the death of her husband, Richard Hardy, will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Lotus Honolulu Hotel.
Friends and fans of Cook’s articles on Hawaii’s culture, arts and natural heritage, which have appeared in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Hana Hou and elsewhere, can enjoy music performed by Henry Kapono, Kuana Torres Kahele and others, and hula by the dancers of Halau Mohala ‘Ilima, of which Cook has been a member for more than 20 years. KITV news anchorwoman Paula Akana will serve as emcee.
The gathering is a fundraiser to help offset medical and other expenses incurred during Hardy’s long battle with cancer. He died just before New Year’s Eve.
A $20 donation at the door includes pupu. There will be a no-host bar and an auction featuring a sail on Hawai‘iloa, round trips on Hawaiian Airlines, Waikiki hotel stays, restaurant gift certificates, art, books and other delights.
The Lotus Honolulu Hotel is 2885 Kalakaua Ave., near Sans Souci. Valet parking will be available.
