Yamauchi in 8th at Waikoloa
The University of Hawaii Hilo’s Dalen Yamauchi is tied for eighth place after shooting a four-under-par 68 during Thursday’s first round of the Amer Ari Intercollegiate at the Waikoloa Beach Resort.
Jon Rahm of Arizona State and Cheng-Tsung Pan of Washington are tied for the lead at 65.
Justin Tokioka is tied for 12th after carding a 73 for UH Manoa, which is 15th in the standings at 294. UH Hilo is 17th at 297.
Southern California leads the 18-team field with a 276. Arizona State and Washington are one stroke back.
Chaminade women beat BYUH
Kennedi Akana had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Lilia Maio finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds as the Chaminade women’s basketball team beat Brigham Young-Hawaii 93-82 in double overtime on Thursday at McCabe Gym.
The Silverswords improved to 5-12 overall and 5-8 in the PacWest.
Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo had 33 points, seven rebounds and six steals for the Seasiders (12-8, 9-5).
Glacen Florita’s layup with 40 seconds tied the game at 63 and forced overtime. Tonga’s layup with 10 seconds tied the game at 71 to force the second overtime. Chaminade outscored BYUH 22 to 11 in the second overtime.

The No. 16 Seasiders improved to 17-2 overall and 11-2 in the PacWest.
Oscar Pedroso had 19 points and Kuany Kuany finished with 18 for the Silverswords (8-10, 5-7).
Bailey named all-academic
Chaminade senior guard Lee Bailey was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 Men’s Basketball Team.
Bailey, of Detroit, is a communications major with a 3.39 cumulative grade point average. The three-time all-Pacific West Conference honoree is averaging 12.2 points and 3.4 assists per game this season.
To be eligible, candidates must be a starter or key reserve, maintain a grade point average of 3.30 and have been at the current institution for one calendar year.
BYUH women swept in softball
Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) swept a softball doubleheader at Brigham Young-Hawaii on Thursday, winning 7-2 and 7-3.
Lizabelle Talataina and Whitney Haimin both drove in runs for the Seasiders in the first game. Courtney Hiruko had two RBIs for the Seasiders (0-2) in the second game.
