UH soccer receives 5 commitments
University of Hawaii women’s soccer coach Michele Nagamine announced Friday that five players have committed for the 2015 season, including Kamehameha defender Sarah Lau and Aiea forward/midfielder Raisa Strom-Okimoto.
The three other players are from California: forward/midfielder Leonicia "Nici" Lopez of Sacramento, goalkeeper Alexis Mata of Woodland and forward Malissa Shadle of San Ramon.
The Rainbow Wahine finished 7-10-1 last season.
Pan helps Huskies take two-shot lead
Washington’s Cheng-Tsung Pan shot his second consecutive 7-under-par 65 to lead by two strokes and the Huskies are atop the team standings heading into today’s final round of the Amer Ari Intercollegiate at the Waikoloa Beach Resort.
Pan leads Southern Cal’s Rico Hoey (66—132).
The Huskies are at 30-under 546, which is three shots ahead of the second-place Trojans in the 18-team tournament.
Dalen Yamauchi (75—143) is tied for 48th for Hawaii Hilo, which is 17th at 595.
Hawaii’s Brian Lee (71—144) is tied for 53rd. The Rainbow Warriors are 16th at 586.
HPU women’s tennis claims season opener
The Hawaii Pacific women’s tennis team beat UC Riverside 6-1 in the Sharks’ season opener Friday at the UH Tennis Complex.
The Sharks, the sixth-ranked team in Division II, got singles victories from Kristyna Hancarova, Nicole Hoynaski, Vivian Hansen, Lorena Gheorghe and Lea Kruse-Utermann. HPU won two of three doubles matches.
The Anteaters dropped to 1-4.
» The Chaminade women’s tennis team lost 8-1 to Linfield at the Brigham Young-Hawaii Tennis Courts.
Kimberly Takara won at No. 2 singles for the Silverswords, who fell to 0-2. The Wildcats improved to 2-1.
