Faulty warning siren sounds at 4 a.m.
State Emergency Management Agency technicians were sent to the Moanalua Community Park area to determine the cause of a malfunctioning civil defense siren that firefighters had to silence early Thursday morning.
State officials said they haven’t determined why the siren at Ala Mahamoe Street sounded at about 4 a.m.
Honolulu Fire Department dispatched an engine company that shut down the siren.
Outdoor warning sirens are activated for testing only on the first working day of the month at 11:45 a.m. — or for actual emergencies.
