Hawaii Hilo softball wins a pair
Hawaii Hilo took both games of a Sunday doubleheader at Dominican, 8-0 and 2-1, in San Rafael, Calif.
Vanessa Salinas scattered two hits over five innings, while Emily Greene drove in a pair of runs in the first game that ended after six innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.
In Game 2, Salinas’ RBI single in the fifth inning broke a 1-all tie and then Salinas pitched the final 2 2/3 innings to earn the save over the Penguins (1-6, 1-3 PacWest).
The Vulcans improve to 6-4, 3-1.
HPU softball splits doubleheader
Sunday’s doubleheader at Howard A. Okita field featured a 4-3 Sharks victory and then a 5-4 win for visiting Pacific University.
Kiana Wolfe’s walk-off single to left in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Hawaii Pacific a comeback victory; entering their half of the inning, the Sharks were down 3-1.
Game 2 featured 13 hits for the Boxers (3-3) and Kiera Melton drove in two runs. In the loss, Chelsea Cramer drove in a pair of runs for the Sharks (7-1).
