Lunar New Year goat graces aloha shirts
Sheep versus ram versus goat — the animals are interchangeable in the Chinese New Year calendar, and Reyn Spooner rings in the Lunar New Year with its Year of the Goat aloha shirt, featuring artwork by Big Island artist Eddy Y.
The limited-edition Reyn Spooner’s Classic Collection shirt features a stylized image of the Chinese zodiac sign, and is available in button-front and pullover styles in azure, black or mustard. It retails for $89 at Reyn Spooner stores and at reynspooner.com.
Cards, bookmarks go way of the ram
Also in celebration of the Lunar New Year, local designer Mozaic Paper has designed die-cut greeting cards, gift cards and ribboned bookmarks celebrating the Year of the Ram. Single greeting cards retail for about $6.50; sets of three mini gift cards, $4; and bookmarks, $3.
Look for these items at the Honolulu Museum of Art Shop, The Paperie (Kahala Mall), Miemiko Atelier (Ward Centre), Native Books at Ward Warehouse, Bishop Museum’s Shop Pacifica and the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawai‘i gift shop. The cards are also in the Smithsonian shops in Washington, D.C.
Westwood collection features doves, dashers
Vivienne Westwood has designed a new collection of limited-edition eco tote bags available at the boutique in Waikiki.
The Doves zip pouch is made of canvas, printed with an image of two doves, and embroidered with Vivienne Westwood’s logo. A Grecian-inspired Relay Runners shopper tote is made of canvas with a recycled brass logo. Other designs are available while supplies last.
The entire collection was handmade in Kenya through the Ethical Fashion Initiative in collaboration with the International Trade Centre, a joint body of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization. The EFI promotes the growth of sustainable business to create stability in impoverished communities.
