The hits from Edward Snowden just keep on coming
If you haven’t made up your mind yet about what to think about former Hawaii resident Edward Snowden, perhaps you should see "Citizenfour," which had already won 13 awards before being named "Best Documentary" at Sunday’s Oscars. It chronicles how Snowden fled from Hawaii to Hong Kong and then to Moscow as part of his quest to reveal the disturbing spying activities of America’s National Security Agency, learned while he worked in Wahiawa as an infrastructure analyst.
His latest revelations, issued just last week via the website The Intercept, were about how the NSA and its British counterpart had hacked into the computer network of the largest manufacturer of SIM cards in the world and "stole encryption keys used to protect the privacy of cellphone communications across the globe."
Obviously we haven’t heard the last of Edward Snowden.
It seems everyone wants in on HEI/NextEra action
There’s no shortage of interest in the pending sale of Hawaiian Electric Industries to Florida-based NextEra Energy Inc. Twenty-eight businesses, labor unions, government agencies, nonprofits and other groups are seeking to be part of the Public Utilities Commission’s decision-making on the deal. The PUC will decide which of the 28 are allowed to intervene, and those who are approved to participate in the process can look forward to receiving far more information than the average ratepayer.
