Kenji Stevens has been appointed executive director of Ballet Hawaii. He most recently served as general manager of the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra and before that in various roles for its predecessor, the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra.
Ballet Hawaii was founded in 1976 and recently moved to a space on South Hotel Street. The organization offers dance training in Honolulu, Wahiawa and Kapolei and is best known for its annual holiday production of "The Nutcracker."
Stevens replaced former Executive Director John Parkinson, who left in December for Hawaii Theatre Center, where he was named to the new position of director of programming, responsible for planning, contracting and managing all presentations and performances at the historic downtown venue.
Also at the theater, Elizabeth O’Brien was named director of audience relations, a new position responsible for front-of-house services including volunteer ushers and docents, concessions and box office operations. She joined the center in 2010 and most recently was executive assistant to the general manager.
Jude Lampitelli, who has been with the organization since 1998, was named technical services and facilities manager for the 1,400-seat theater, which opened in 1922 and is listed on the state and national registers of historic places.
