Seasiders defeat third top-25 opponent
The No. 4-ranked and undefeated BYU-Hawaii women’s tennis team continued its hot streak with a 9-0 sweep of No. 23 Cal State Los Angeles on Wednesday at the CSULA Tennis Complex.
In singles matches, No. 2 Nannan (Dallas) Zhang defeated the Golden Eagles’ Nozomi Matsuoka 6-3, 6-0; No. 6 Min (Karen) Liu beat Sonia Landeros 6-1, 6-2; and No. 10 Marietta Tuionetoa downed Iris Raileanu 6-2, 6-0.
Also winning their singles matches for the Seasiders were Jeong Min Jeon, Jin Jin (Leah) Han and Jade Griffin.
In doubles competition, the No. 3 nationally ranked pairing of Liu and Zhang defeated Cal State L.A.’s top pairing of Matsuoka and Makashov 8-3. Also teaming up for victories were Tuionetoa and Han, and Griffin and Chiung-En (JoJo) Wu.
The Seasiders (11-0, 5-0 PacWest) complete their road trip Thursday against Azusa Pacific at 10 a.m.
