Police are investigating the shooting death of a 72-year-old Salt Lake man Friday morning as a second-degree murder.
Emergency Medical Services personnel called to the Ala Leleu Street residence at about 6 a.m. discovered the man with a single gunshot wound.
The man was transported in critical condition to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No arrests have yet been made in the case.
Police say they believe the shooting occurred at about 5:30 a.m. Neighbors reported hearing two shots 10 to 30 seconds apart.
According to neighbors, the man moved into the home about two months ago and was sometimes seen sitting outside.
A number of younger people apparently moved in with the man more recently, neighbors said.
