Garcia pitches HPU over Holy Names
Hawaii Pacific ace Rico Garcia gave up two runs in six innings and Hawaii Pacific beat Holy Names 4-3 in a PacWest baseball game on Wednesday at Hans L’Orange Park. Garcia was named the PacWest Pitcher of the Week earlier in the day.
Tyler Tokunaga had a pair of hits and Chad Bolibol drove in two runs for the Sharks (8-2, 5-0 PacWest). Holy Names (10-7, 2-3) committed four errors.
BYUH’s Coro named to PacWest first team
Brigham Young-Hawaii senior guard Pablo Coro was named to the Pacific West Conference’s first team in men’s basketball.
Coro was the only Hawaii player on the first team, but Chaminade’s Lee Bailey, BYUH’s Daniel Berger, Hawaii Pacific’s Luke Hager and UH Hilo’s Tre Johnson made the second team. Chaminade’s Kevin Hu and Kuany Kuany were named to the third team along with HPU’s Justin Long.
Azusa Pacific’s Troy Leaf is the player of the year.
HPU’s Comstock voted best in conference
Hawaii Pacific’s Morganne Comstock was named the Pacific West Conference’s player of the year for women’s basketball.
Comstock, a senior forward, was joined on the first team by teammate Kylie Huerta, who was named Newcomer of the Year. HPU’s Reid Takatsuka was honored as the coach of the year.
BYU Hawaii’s Brydgette Tatupu Leopoldo was placed on the second team and teammate Celeste Claw made the third team along with HPU’s Chenise Peone.
