After going 8-2 in Big West matches the last two years, Rainbow Warrior senior Chas Okamoto looks to be picking up momentum heading toward conference play.
The Kapa‘a graduate won two singles matches in the Pacific Mountain Invitational last weekend in Stockton, Calif., and has captured three of his last four decisions as the Warriors return to the UH Tennis Complex this week. They face UMKC at 3 p.m. Friday and Cleveland State at noon on Sunday.
Playing at No. 2 singles, Okamoto was up a set in his opening match last week when San Francisco secured the clinching point in a 4-0 win. He was able to finish off his next two matches, providing UH’s lone point in a 4-1 loss to Idaho with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Jackson Varney.
He closed the weekend with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Grand Canyon’s Alexander Roggenkamp in the Warriors’ 4-2 win.
