UH holds the line on football tickets
The good news on the University of Hawaii football-ticket front is that season ticket prices will remain about the same as last year.
The bad news, though, is that there were only 17,223 season-ticket holders last year, the lowest in more than 30 years.
There will be some minor price adjustments, such as some cheaper seats in the south end zone, while all seats in the lowest-priced north end zone will go up a bit.
There also will be discount offers, such as 10 percent off on Under Armour items at H-Zone stores, and half-price off some UH sporting events.
Let’s hope these true-blue Warrior fans are rewarded with a solid UH season.
New Target gets head start on ban
It will be interesting to watch business at the new Target store in Kailua.
For starters, this was the focus of a lot of pushback from residents who didn’t want the traffic of a big-box national outlet and mourned the departure of its quirkier predecessor, Don Quijote. Will Kailuans embrace it? We’ll see.
The bigger question: Will shoppers embrace the no-plastic-bag policy the store is implementing, ahead of the city’s ban taking effect in July?
How will customers adjust to the task of toting their purchases out to the car? Will they buy reusable bags, or will they resort to the Costco/Sam’s Club approach of snaring empty boxes for that purpose?
Consider this a test drive for a new policy. Ordinarily when the City Council enacts something, the public doesn’t get a chance for a preview.
