Wastewater overflows onto Maui road
An electrical outage at the Kaa Pump Station in Kahului resulted in approximately 100,000 gallons of wastewater overflowing onto Amala Road on Friday, according to a Maui County news release.
The spill reached a restricted-access area on Alahoa Road but did not enter any waterways, according to the Department of Environmental Management.
Standing water was removed and the area was disinfected. The state Department of Health was notified.
Flags to fly lower for ex-legislator Carroll
Gov. David Ige has ordered that the U.S. and state flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Sunday in memory of former state Rep. Diana "Mele" Carroll.
A memorial service will be held Sunday on Maui at Ballard Family Mortuary.
Carroll, 50, served in the state House of Representatives from 2005 to 2015. She represented Kahoolawe, Lanai, Molokai and parts of Maui.
Carroll resigned from the House on Feb. 1 and died of cancer Feb. 18.
