Quarterback Club welcomes watermen
Joe Lileikis, masters swimming program coach at the Oahu Club in Hawaii Kai, and Todd Harold Pohaku Bradley, co-founder of the C4 Waterman Program, will be the guest speakers at the Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon Monday at the Maple Garden Restaurant.
The Maple Garden Restaurant is at 909 Isenberg St. Lunch is at 11:30 a.m., followed by the program at noon. The luncheon cost is $15 per person.
Vulcans softball swept in doubleheader
The Hawaii Hilo softball team suffered its second doubleheader sweep in two days against California Baptist, dropping two more games Saturday on the Big Island.
Lancers pitcher Loie Kesterson gave up one run on four hits for the 2-1 win in Game 1.
Down 1-0 in the fifth inning, California Baptist tied it on Jordan Mowatt’s RBI single, then took the lead on Savannah Miller’s RBI single in the seventh.
Hawaii Hilo’s Brittany Huff grounded out with two outs and two left on base in the seventh to end the game.
In the second game, Miller had a two-run double in a five-run fourth for the Lancers, who pulled away for an 11-3 victory. Kailey Willingham drove in three runs for the Lancers (26-6,15-3 PacWest).
Emily Green had a two-run double and Shelby Vickers had two hits for the Vulcans (12-13, 7-8).
» The BYU-Hawaii softball team also had doubleheader trouble, losing both of another two-game set against Azusa Pacific on Saturday, 5-3 and 10-1, in Laie.
Brandy Karl had three hits and Sarah Captain homered for the Seasiders in the opener.
Courtney Hiruko and Karl each had two hits for BYU-Hawaii (4-18, 2-16) in Game 2.
HPU baseball team drops doubleheader
Dixie State remained unbeaten in the Pacific West Conference, sweeping Hawaii Pacific 5-2 and 7-5 in a baseball doubleheader Saturday at Hans L’Orange Park.
It was the first two conference losses for the Sharks, who dropped to 11-4 overall and 8-2 in the PacWest. The Red Storm is 11-7, 6-0.
Derek Nakasato led HPU with two hits in the opener, and Codey Ellenwood had three hits for the Sharks in the nightcap.
