The NCAA college basketball tournament is not as big as the Super Bowl, but it’s close, especially this week’s first and second rounds. Several casinos are running viewing parties with all-you-can-drink options for $65 and up, but you can likely do better at traditional viewing spots like South Point, Westgate, Gold Coast, Orleans and the Station casinos sports books.
Fremont Street is hosting the sixth annual "Downtown Hoopstown" celebration with free entertainment, drink specials, and the "World’s Largest NCAA Bracket" displayed on the Viva Vision canopy. Also downtown, buy in for $100 on any table game at the D or the Golden Gate and get a logo T-shirt.
Better HH: Another good option for watching basketball is PT’s taverns, which have added $5 appetizers to their already good daily happy-hour specials. Now, in addition to half off breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m., pizzas and drinks are 50 percent off and appetizers are $5 from
6 to 7 p.m. and midnight to 2 a.m. daily. What makes this one so good is that it’s offered at 48 locations throughout the valley.
Sexxy: If seeing a topless production is on your trip itinerary, a new show at Westgate Las Vegas (formerly the Las Vegas Hilton and LVH) can save you some bucks. Sexxy is on par with the other topless shows in town for quality, but starting at $38.90 after taxes and fees, it’s priced $10 below Fantasy (Luxor), $25 below X Rocks (Rio), and $35 below X Burlesque (Flamingo).
Question: Regarding your Q&A listing people who’ve had the casino lights on the Strip dimmed in their honor, did you forget Elvis Presley? My family visited Vegas in 1977 after his passing and I’m sure they were dimmed for Elvis.
Answer: You are correct. We inadvertently left Elvis Presley off the list that also includes John F. Kennedy, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, George Burns, Frank Sinatra, Ronald Reagan and Jerry Tarkanian. Lights were also dimmed after the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and in commemoration of Earth Hour in 2009.
