1 killed, 1 injured in Laie crash
The driver in an early morning fatal crash in Laie on Wednesday was traveling at an estimated speed of 100 mph, Honolulu Police Chief Louis Kealoha said.
Police were trying to determine who was the driver in the crash that killed a 27-year-old woman and injured a 27-year-old man, Kealoha said at a Police Commission hearing.
Police said two people were in a car heading south on Kamehameha Highway at about 1:50 a.m. when the vehicle left the roadway, crashed through a fence and rolled several times in an open field.
Both occupants were ejected. The woman, of Hauula, died at the scene.
Paramedics took the man, also of Hauula, to the hospital in serious condition.
The crash occurred near Wahinepee Street, fronting Gunstock Ranch.
Police said both occupants were intoxicated.
It was the 13th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to 18 at this time last year.
Man who died after arrest ID’d
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office on Wednesday identified a man who died after police shot him twice with a stun gun as Sheldon Haleck, 38, of Mililani.
The results of an autopsy are still pending.
Police said Haleck died Tuesday at the Queen’s Medical Center after collapsing during an incident the night before.
According to a police statement, Haleck was running and acting erratic in the middle of South King Street in front of Iolani Palace at about 8:15 p.m. Monday. When officers arrived, Haleck refused to leave the roadway and ran from officers as they approached.
Haleck did not cooperate after police used pepper spray and still ran from officers after police shot him twice with a stun gun.
Police arrested Haleck for disorderly conduct after he tripped and fell on South King Street while trying to run from the officers. Police described Haleck as "combative."
Police escorted Haleck to the sidewalk, where he became unresponsive. Paramedics took Haleck to Queen’s, where he later died.

Man admits role in robbery of liquor store
An Anahola man pleaded guilty Tuesday in Kauai Circuit Court to robbing the Kapa‘a Liquor and Wine Co. in February.
Kawika Manaku, 29, pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery.
On Feb. 2, a man walked into the liquor store and approached the 70-year-old male store owner with a metal rod in his hand, police said. The man then pushed the victim to the ground and attacked him, punching him several times in the head and face.
While gathering items, police said, the robber noticed the victim attempting to stand up, and again shoved him to the ground, thrusting the victim’s head into a large metal refrigerator.
Police arrested Manaku on Feb. 3. He remains in custody at the Kauai Community Correctional Center.
Manaku faces 20 years imprisonment for first-degree robbery at his June 17 sentencing.
