Hawaii’s shot put record changed hands over the weekend, but the mark remains under Canadian control.
Alex Porlier Langlois took over the top spot in the Rainbow Wahine record book with a throw of 52 feet, 7 1⁄2 inches at the Trojan Invitational in Los Angeles last Saturday. The senior from Quebec surpassed the previous record of 51-7 1⁄4 set by fellow Canadian Meghan Weaver in 2008.
Porlier Langlois’ career long entering the season was 50-1⁄2 set last April, when she became the third UH thrower to pass the 50-foot mark. She extended the school record by a foot last week while also qualifying for the Big West championships.
Porlier Langlois has also distinguished herself academically throughout her career at UH and was UH’s female recipient of the Big West Scholar-Athlete of the Year award on March 10.
The Rainbow Wahine are back in Southern California this weekend for the SDSU Spring Break Invitational set for Friday and Saturday in San Diego.
