Teenage cliff jumpers rescued from sea

Honolulu city lifeguards rescued four boys who ran into trouble after jumping off a cliff near Hanauma Bay.

The boys, ages 15 to 17, were taken to a hospital Saturday. All had scrapes, but only one was in serious condition after swallowing water, said Emergency Medical Services spokeswoman Shayne Enright.

She said the boys jumped off the cliffside between Hanauma Bay and Lanai Lookout, near the rifle range, and couldn’t get back to the rocks because of the strong surf. The fourth teen got into trouble while trying to rescue the other boys. Enright said a passer-by saw the boys in trouble and called 911 at about 12:30 p.m.

Gunshot puts man in serious condition

Police are searching for a suspect in an early morning shooting Saturday in Mililani that left a 35-year-old man in serious condition.

According to police, the victim reported being shot in the chest by a man with a silver semiautomatic handgun about 1:15 a.m. An ambulance responded to Kealakaa Street and Lanikuhana Avenue and took the victim to a hospital, an Emergency Medical Services supervisor said.

Helicopter plucks hiker from Olomana Trail

Rescue crews went to the aid of a woman who fell Saturday on Olomana Trail.

Shortly after 10 a.m., firefighters reached the 46-year-old woman by helicopter near the first peak and took her to Maunawili Park, where she was transferred to an ambulance.

An Emergency Medical Services supervisor said the woman was injured when she slid about 40 feet, and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
