Chinatown arson investigated
Police opened an arson investigation Saturday after someone started a fire in a public restroom in Chinatown, authorities said.
The fire was deliberately set at about 1:50 p.m. and placed others in danger, police said. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters said fire personnel responded to a restroom in Kekaulike Mall off Maunakea Street and immediately put out the fire.
Crew rescues girl at Makapuu
A Honolulu fire helicopter crew rescued a 12-year-old girl Sunday after a large wave knocked her down in the Makapuu Tide Pools.
Honolulu fire inspector Kendall Ching said the girl was with three other people at the pools below the Makapuu lighthouse when she was hit by a wave shortly after 11 a.m.
She sustained abrasions and complained of a headache. Others in the group called firefighters, and a fire helicopter picked her up at about noon.
Firefighters took the girl to a landing zone and transferred her to an ambulance.
