Arizona replaces Kansas on 2016 football schedule
The University of Hawaii will replace its game with Kansas with one at Arizona on its 2016 football schedule, the schools announced Tuesday.
The Wildcats will come to Hawaii in 2025.
The Jayhawks asked to be let out of games scheduled with Hawaii in 2016 and ’17 after a coaching change.
In 2017, the Rainbow Warriors will add a home game with Western Carolina, a Football Championship Subdivision team.
In addition, Fordham, also an FCS opponent, will come here in 2020.
UH last played in Tucson, Ariz., in 1952. The Wildcats last played at Aloha Stadium in 1998.
UH Hilo splits a pair with Academy of Art
The University of Hawaii Hilo softball team dropped the first game of its doubleheader, 4-2, against Academy of the Art in Brisbane, Calif.
The Vulcans got on the board first when Shelby Vickers took a walk and scored a run in the second inning. Vanessa Salinas followed up with a solo home run in the top of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.
The Urban Knights struck back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to rally for the win.
Hawaii Hilo then defeated Academy of the Art 9-8 to earn a split for the day.
Brandi Wilson led the Vulcans’ offense with a three-run homer in the sixth to put them ahead 9-6.
Hawaii Hilo is now 23-15 overall, 12-9 in the PacWest. Academy of Art is 18-22 and 10-10.
Silverswords swept by Dominican on road
Chaminade’s softball team ended its road trip by being swept by Dominican, 12-4 in six innings and 6-5 in eight innings.
The Silverswords dropped to 7-3 overall, 6-16 in the PacWest, while the Penguins improved to 8-23 and 6-12.
Coco Stewart hit a two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning in the first game to give Chaminade a 4-3 lead, but the Penguins answered with nine runs to end the game by mercy rule.
In the second game, Chaminade’s Nicole Erichsen hit a two-run blast for her first career home run to tie the game in bottom of the fifth.
In the bottom of the eighth, Ashley Moriaty beat a throw home on a fielder’s choice to shortstop to help lift the Penguins over the Silverswords.
