Stabbing leaves victim in serious condition
A 25-year-old man was in serious condition after a stabbing Wednesday afternoon at Kuhio Homes in Kalihi.
Emergency Medical Services personnel said the incident occurred about 2 p.m., and the victim suffered stab wounds to the upper body. He was transported to a hospital.
Details of the stabbing were not available.
Maui moped rider dies of crash injuries
A 56-year-old Kahului man died Wednesday at Maui Memorial Medical Center from injuries sustained Friday in a crash in Kahului.
At 12:32 p.m. Friday, Richard J. Organiscak was making a left turn with his moped from an exit of 349 Hanakai St. and collided with a white 2008 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
This is Maui County’s second traffic fatality for the year as compared with three at this time last year.
Boy nearly drowns while helping brother
A 12-year-old boy was in serious condition after an apparent near-drowning Wednesday afternoon at Hilton Hawaiian Village’s lagoon, according to an Emergency Medical Services report.
The boy apparently had trouble in the water while trying to assist his younger brother after a stand-up paddleboard incident at the lagoon, according to the report.
Paramedics arrived shortly before 4:15 p.m., treated the boy and transported him to a hospital.

Big brush fire burns 100 acres in Koloa, Kauai
Kauai firefighters contained a brush fire that scorched 100 acres in Koloa on Tuesday.
The fire broke out at about 4 p.m. in a vacant lot at the end of Poipu Road.
Firefighters used two helicopters to conduct water drops. Several private companies and community members also stepped in to provide water tenders and a loader.
The fire was contained at 8:30 p.m. and extinguished by 9:20 p.m., according to the fire department. No injuries or structural damage were reported.
Firefighters returned to the scene Wednesday morning to monitor hot spots.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Anyone with information on the fire is asked to call police at 241-1711.
