On The Scene: Kepilino honored; humane society

Nick Ware, assistant general manager of Hula Grill Waikiki, joined general manager Dianne Vicheinrut in congratulating kumu hula Ku'uleimomi Aarona Kepilino, 2015 recipient of the restaurant's I Ola Mau ka Hula ("in order to perpetuate the hula") Award, on April 3 at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort. Kepilino began dancing hula during World War II and studied with kumu hula Maiki Aiu Lake for several decades before becoming kumu of her own halau hula in 1973. She had spent more than 60 years perpetuating hula when she retired in 2011.
