Shigezawa leads Mid-Pacific Open
Bradley Shigezawa shot a 7-under-par 65 to take a four-stroke lead after Thursday’s first round of the Mid-Pacific Open at Mid-Pacific Country Club.
Shigezawa posted seven birdies and one eagle.
TJ Kua is in second and Cory Oride is third at 70.
The second round starts Friday at 6:30 a.m.
UH’s Vazquez 37th in heptathlon
The University of Hawaii’s Felicianna Vazquez placed 37th on Thursday during the California Heptathlon at Azusa, Calif.
Vazquez, a sophomore competing in her first heptathlon, scored 4,038 points. On Thursday, she had the fourth-best javelin throw at 123 feet, 10 inches, long jumped 17-31⁄2 and ran the 800 meters in 3:03.19.
UH freshman Sha’tres Ah Nee placed 40th in the heptathlon with 3,796 points. She posted marks of 15-11 in the long jump, a 74-11 in the javelin and a 2:58.97 in the 800 meters.
HPU softball tops Notre Dame de Namur
Paige Crawford picked up the victory and had two hits and Keila Elderts scored twice as the Hawaii Pacific softball team beat Notre Dame de Namur 7-5 on Thursday at Belmont, Calif.
Six players drove in one run apiece for the Sharks (22-18 overall, 12-12 PacWest).
The Argonauts dropped to 19-26 and 13-11.
