Pettersen closes strong

Suzann Pettersen appeared in search of something for most of her first two rounds at Ko Olina Golf Club. The fiery Norwegian may have found it heading into the weekend.

Pettersen, the 2013 Lotte champion, battled back from 1 over through her first four holes Thursday. She birdied three of her final five, including her last two — Nos. 8 and 9 — with impressive putts to move to 3 under, within seven shots of the leaders.

"I hit a lot of close putts in the last few days, it’s just taking the edge," Pettersen said. "I’m hitting great putts. Other than that, it’s two more days and I’m playing good."

The 14-time LPGA winner has worn frustration for all to see on some lip-outs, but by the end of her second round, she reminded everyone through her play that the last time she played this event, she won it; Pettersen was out with a back injury this time last year when Michelle Wie took it.

"Yeah, for sure (feeling back to normal)," Pettersen said. "It took a while, but I came back faster than I thought. … I managed to play through the end of the (2014) season. You know, train smart and make good decisions."

Woods misses cut

Cheyenne Woods battled the cut line and par all afternoon Thursday, but faltered at the end.

The niece of Tiger Woods missed a 3-foot putt for par on the 18th hole to finish the second round at 1-over 73.

It was quite an unfortunate turn of events, as she had just rolled a 90-foot downhill chip that nearly went into the hole for birdie.

Coupled with her 3-over 75 in Wednesday’s first round, Woods missed the cut by one shot and tied for 73rd.

"Just not enough, unfortunately," Woods said, when asked about grinding it out Thursday. "The wind made it hard, but also made it challenging."

What advice does she get from her famous uncle?

"He tells me just to trust my ability," she said.

Lincicome makes a move

Brittany Lincicome entered the Lotte Championship propelled by the momentum of a major championship.

She scuffled through her first round since winning the ANA Inspiration with a 1-over 73 on Wednesday.

But she bounced back with a 5-under 67 on Thursday to match Sei Young Kim for the hot round of the morning session.

Lincicome turned in a bogey-free round and ended the day with her fifth birdie of the round. She gave herself opportunities to go low by hitting 12 of 14 fairways and 14 greens in regulation.

Song withdraws due to illness

Christine Song withdrew from the tournament before Thursday’s round due to illness.

Song shot a 10-over 82 in the first round on Wednesday.

Song is the second player to withdraw from the event. Vicky Hurst withdrew on Wednesday due to a wrist injury.
