Hawaii Pacific routs UH Hilo in baseball
Hawaii Pacific belted out 20 hits to defeat Hawaii Hilo 12-3 in a Pacific West Conference baseball game Friday at Wong Stadium in Hilo.
Nolan Barraza went 4-for-6 and drove in three runs for HPU (18-18, 12-15). Jordan Oshiro, Codey Ellenwood and Ryan Torres-Torioka all had three hits for the Sharks. Jordan Murai drove in all three runs for the Vulcans (7-31, 5-22).
Valencia pitches BYUH to 2 victories
Destyni Valencia pitched two complete games as Brigham Young-Hawaii won 6-1 and 2-1 against Dominican in a Pacific West Conference softball doubleheader Friday in San Rafael, Calif.
In the first game, Lizabelle Talataina hit a solo homer in the third, and then Whitley Haimin added her first career homer in the fourth inning.
In the second game, Tiffany Smith’s run-scoring base hit in the second inning held up as the game-winning run. Valencia earned her second win of the day by striking out the final batter of the game.
