If you were planning on visiting Las Vegas over the May 2 weekend and don’t already have your accommodations, you might want to reconsider your dates. That’s the weekend of the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight, and room rates are at least triple the norm in most places. That is, if you can find a casino with rooms left. Many have already sold out, and prices from $320 to $550 per night are posted even at smaller downtown casinos. That’s nothing compared with fight tickets. Though face values range from $1,500 to $7,500 (for ringside), demand could push premium seats up to $75,000.
Slow roller: Ridership for the LINQ Promenade’s High Roller has been only about half of projections. The world’s tallest observation wheel is averaging just under 5,000 riders per day, whereas estimates were for 8,000 to 11,000 daily riders. That’s still about 1.8 million riders a year, which at an average of $25 per ride is $45 million in annual revenue.
Cool comp: M Resort is advertising a good comp for blackjack players. Play one hour on any live blackjack game and get a $25 food credit. The offer is available only to new players club sign-ups.
50+: The Young at Heart promotion for ages 50 and up at Orleans, Gold Coast, Suncoast and Sam’s Town is one of the better seniors promos to show up in a while. On Wednesdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., swipe your players card in a kiosk to get a mystery slots multiplier from 5X to 50X points. That’s good, but if you don’t gamble, just earn 10 points ($10 coin-in) and get a two-for-one buffet coupon.
QUESTION: Last time I was in town, a movie was being shot at Wynn Las Vegas. Do you have details about it?
ANSWER: It’s called "The Squeeze," about a talented golfer who’s brought into the world of hustling and big-money play. It premiered last week at the Wynn.
