The Blue Angels, with a 2001 Maryknoll School graduate piloting one of the F/A-18 Hornet jets, will perform Oct. 17-18 at Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Kaneohe Bay.

Navy Lt. Matt Suyderhoud, who grew up in Hawaii Kai, joined the Navy’s Blue Angels flight demonstration team last July.

Suyderhoud and his twin brother, Johann, are 2001 graduates of Maryknoll School. Their father, Jack Suyderhoud, is a professor at the University of Hawaii’s Shidler College of Business.

October’s air show will also feature demonstrations by the Blue Angels C-130 Hercules support plane, known affectionately as "Fat Albert," a reference to the 1970s popular cartoon character.

Vintage and modern aircraft will be on display and the event includes food booths and a carnival midway.

The Blue Angels were here last year for a two-day show in September at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

Marine Corps Base Hawaii’s last air show was in 2012, drawing nearly 110,000 people during the two-day event.

The Kaneohe base will be open to the public with free admission and free parking. For those who want better seats, reserve box, grandstand and chalet seats will be for sale.

The gates are tentatively set to open at 9 a.m. on both days. Security restrictions will be in place.
